On the 14th April, 39 very lucky Juniors participated in a Junior Coaching Day that was hosted by Frankston Australian Clay Target Club (FACTC). This day was offered to Juniors who are already competitive in the Sport and to encourage their progression.
When Jane Vella, Club Secretary of FACTC began preparations for this day in November last year, she did not anticipate the event to be as big as it was! This Coaching Day was offered free of charge to Juniors and only due to the generosity of the sponsors and coaches to purely benefit the Juniors and the progression of the future of Clay Target Shooting.
16 Clubs were represented on the Day from Ararat, Bairnsdale, Beaufort, Bendigo, Colac, Cooma, Euroa, Frankston, Korumburra, Melbourne, Metropolitan, Mornington, Morwell, Swan Hill, Werribee and Wonthaggi. It was also great to see a good mix of both male and female Juniors.
The calibre of Coaches that were available to the Juniors was like something never before offered on this scale! The number of Olympic, Commonwealth, State, National, World Championship and World Cup Medals amongst this group of some of Australia’s best shooting talent is commendable.
A big thank you to Adam Vella, Lauryn Mark, Renae Birgan, Michael Buttigieg, Laetisha Scanlan, Catherine Skinner, and Stephen Haberman for dedicating a day of their time to this event.
All Juniors were allocated a Coach and were able to shoot 100 targets in their chosen disciplines which included ISSF Skeet, ISSF Trap, Skeet and Trap. FACTC donated the White Flyer targets and the use of 7 grounds for the day with Spartan Global generously donating all the ammunition.
Greg Chan, former Australian International Shotgun Coach and current Australian Junior Team Coach dedicated his time to checking the gun fit of each and every Junior complimented by the availability of pattern testing.
Juniors also received a jam packed showbag full of items from sponsors including Perazzi Australia, S H Shooting, Spika, Beretta Australia, the ACTA and VCTA and Krieghoff Australia. The support that the State Body (VCTA) showed to this event was admirable and covered catering costs for the day and the purchase of caps for all Juniors and Coaches. Angelo Thomas from Thomas by Design Photography donated his time to photographing the day and images were then sent out to all Juniors on USB’s they had provided.
Each and every single Junior truly embraced the experience and were so grateful and thankful for the opportunity to be coached by the calibre of Australian shooters made available to them.
The day was not about promoting a specific brand or glorifying a specific club but instead about a group of very generous people dedicating their time to assisting in the finessing of the skills of these 39 Juniors who are undoubtedly the future of our sport.
